Creating a Company with 100,000 Problem-Solvers

Jabil is the third largest electronics manufacturing services provider in the world. With over 100,000 employees, Jabil helps some of the world’s most recognized brands meet rapidly changing market demands. How does a company this size maneuver so quickly and strategically? The answer lies with its people.

Jaime Villafuerte, one of Jabil’s Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Directors, speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and English, and holds an Industrial Engineering Bachelor degree and an MBA. Additionally, he has 12 years of experience in designing, managing, and leading lean enterprise transformations and has taught lean thinking to thousands of people worldwide.

In 2010, Jaime launched the Jabil Lean Six Sigma certification program globally with the philosophy that the Lean Six Sigma approach at Jabil is fundamentally different from competitors. Jabil’s philosophy is simple – “make each Jabil employee a problem solver, a very effective one”.  According to Jaime,

“Our relentless efforts to train everyone in our organization in Lean Six Sigma, from our top management to our front-operator in each of our sites around the world is the key to successful projects, millions of dollars savings and quality improvements.”

Jaime notes that many companies view learning and training only as unavoidable, a financial cost or burden to be minimized. Companies like Jabil embrace lean culture because they understand that well-trained employees are key to higher levels of customer satisfaction. In turn, improved customer satisfaction drives market growth and robust financial results.

Since implementing the Jabil Lean Black Belt training program, Jaime’s training program has resulted in process improvements from IT, finance, and supply chain. In fact, since April 2011, over 20,000 Lean projects have  increased cost savings by 323%.

Jaime Villafuerte, Jabil’s Lean Six Sigma Director, is harnessing the knowledge and innovation of over 100,000 Jabil employees to drive continuous improvement throughout the company. With significant process improvements and financial savings, Jaime is proving that, through the Lean Six Sigma program, empowered Jabil employees are incredibly effective problem solvers.

On April 25, 2012, Jaime will be presenting at IndustryWeek’s Best Plants Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jaime will share insights into deploying Lean Six Sigma across large organizations.
